“Walker Scobell, the actor known for his role in Percy Jackson, was considered for a part in the Deadpool and Wolverine film.”

With Deadpool & Wolverine now in its second week of a successful theatrical run, it’s finally time to discuss the many cameos featured in its 128-minute meta-adventure without worrying about spoilers. These films are designed to provoke instant reactions, and it’s common for fans to discuss every detail and speculate on future possibilities right after their first viewing. Even Disney and Marvel have now officially acknowledged the spoiler frenzy.

Deadpool & Wolverine is particularly intriguing because the buzz includes not just what appeared in the film, but also what didn’t. For instance, characters like Blade, Elektra, and Gambit, who made memorable appearances in earlier Marvel movies, have bid their farewells. This isn’t surprising, as the MCU has moved past these characters, and their return was more of a nostalgic nod than a sign of a broader comeback.

However, some fans are curious about who might have been left out. In the realm of Fox’s Marvel Universe, the list of notable absentees is extensive. There were even whispers about random cameos, such as Henry Cavill appearing as Cavillrine, or various Deadpool variants, with recognizable voices from actors like Matthew McConaughey and Blake Lively.

One notable absence was Walker Scobell, known for his role as Percy Jackson. Despite his expressed interest in joining the Deadpool universe, logistical issues prevented his involvement in this film.

The (lost) wages of puberty

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy shared that Walker Scobell was originally the top choice for the role of Kidpool. While many might have assumed that Inez Reynolds, the 7-year-old daughter of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, was always intended for the part, Levy revealed that Scobell was indeed the first pick.

Unfortunately for Scobell, who had previously showcased his enthusiasm for the role by performing Deadpool’s “f*** Wolverine” monologue on video during the filming of The Adam Project, he went through puberty during the casting period. Levy explained:

“If Walker Scobell had remained the same age and not gone through puberty, he absolutely would have been Kidpool. It was his dream role. Ryan and I reached out to him when we realized that he was becoming too old for the part, both in terms of height and voice. Puberty is unavoidable, and despite any Hollywood aspirations, it can’t be halted. We explained the situation to Walker, and he was very understanding.”

It’s unfortunate for Scobell, especially given his growing fame from Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which was renewed for a second season this year. Nevertheless, there’s a possibility that by the time a potential fourth Deadpool movie is in the works, Scobell might be suitable for a more mature role. In the meantime, Scobell’s career prospects remain bright, and he could well find himself in future projects, perhaps even joining the ranks of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.
