Charles Cyphers, best known for his portrayal of Sheriff Leigh Brackett in the “Halloween” series, passed away from a brief illness in Tucson, Arizona, on Sunday, according to his manager, Chris Roe. He was 85.

In a statement shared with Variety, Roe described Cyphers as “a lovable and sensitive man” who “always had the best stories,” adding, “He was a close friend and client of many years who will be dearly missed.”

Cyphers first gained recognition for his role as Sheriff Brackett in John Carpenter’s 1978 horror classic “Halloween,” which also marked Jamie Lee Curtis’s film debut. He reprised this role in “Halloween II” (1981) and “Halloween Kills” (2021).

Carpenter reflected on Cyphers’s passing on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “He was an early and frequent collaborator on my early movies. A kind man and a friend. I shall miss him.”

Nancy Kyes, who worked with Cyphers on “Halloween,” “The Fog,” and “Assault on Precinct 13,” expressed her sadness, stating, “So sorry to hear about dear Chuck. My friend of many years, he could always be relied on for a kind word, a good laugh, and a great story. He will be missed.”
