Rani Mukerji and Karan Johar to Speak at Australian Parliament House (EXCLUSIVE)

Indian cinema figures Rani Mukerji and Karan Johar are scheduled to give a keynote address at the Australian Parliament House on August 13. This event precedes the 15th annual Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), starting on August 15.

The invitation follows a newly ratified co-production treaty between India and Australia. Mukerji and Johar will discuss the role of cinema in bridging cultures and uniting audiences globally.

Mukerji, known for her roles in “Black,” “Hichki,” and “Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway,” has been a significant Bollywood presence since the late 1990s. Johar, known for his directorial debut “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” in 1998, has become a major figure in Indian cinema as a director, producer, and media personality.

Mukerji commented, “It’s an honor to represent Indian cinema at the Australian Parliament House and discuss the rich cinematic heritage we share with the world. This is a significant moment for our industry and an opportunity to highlight the growing cultural exchange between Australia and India through film.”

Johar added, “Being invited to speak at the Australian Parliament House is a tremendous honor. I’m excited to celebrate the global impact of Indian cinema and the strong cultural ties it fosters.”

The keynote is anticipated to attract parliament members, ministers, and other dignitaries.

IFFM festival director Mitu Bhowmik Lange stated, “This year marks a milestone for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Having Rani Mukerji and Karan Johar as keynote speakers underscores the festival’s increasing prominence and influence.”
