Daisy Ridley Shares Her Diagnosis of Graves’ Disease

In a recent interview with Women’s Health, Daisy Ridley disclosed that she was diagnosed with Graves’ disease in September 2023.

Graves’ disease is an autoimmune disorder that leads to an overactive thyroid, causing symptoms such as shakiness, heat sensitivity, weight loss, and skin issues.

After completing her role in Sam Yates’ 2024 thriller Magpie, Ridley began experiencing symptoms including a rapid heartbeat, significant weight loss, fatigue, and trembling hands. Initially, she attributed these symptoms to the stress of her role.

Describing her condition to an endocrinologist, Ridley learned that the feeling associated with Graves’ disease is often described as “tired but weird.” This helped her recognize that her irritability and discomfort were linked to the disease rather than just stress.

Ridley, who has been vegan for several years, has also eliminated gluten from her diet since her diagnosis. Although she admits she isn’t always strict about it, she finds that the dietary change generally helps her feel better.

To manage her symptoms, Ridley has incorporated infrared saunas, cryotherapy, and acupuncture into her routine. She also carries a piece of rose quartz, which she believes helps with emotional balance and self-love.

“I do a fair amount of holistic practices, but I also recognize that having the means to do so is a privilege,” Ridley noted.
